Title: Artist’s Journey
Date: 2013
Size: 18” x 18”
Medium: Hand embroidery Description:
A self-portrait depicting the conception of an idea, and then the lonely process of creating it – not knowing if it will have any impact on others outside of my creative womb.
The figure in the lower right corner is carrying a fetus – the inception of artistic potential. Yet the figure is encapsulated in her own womb that allows her to be oblivious to the formidable obstacles that lie beyond including: high waves; storms; whirlpools; a high wall; and, the succession of time as indicated by several sun-like and star-like spheres. Since there are a large number of light sources and openness toward the top, it indicates the artist is heading in the direction towards enlightenment about the journey.
